Robotics Pulse - Week 5 July
š„Here are this week's Robotics Engineering Jobs.
We listed ~200 new robotics jobs, divided into U.S. & International spreadsheets.
š Robotix Research Vault: Every week, I'll sift through the latest robotics research and share the few papers that are actually worth your attention.
1. š¤ CLIFT: Fine-Tuning Closed Robot Foundation Models for Humanoids
This paper introduces CLIFT, a framework that enables closed-loop improvement of proprietary robot foundation models (such as Gemini Robotics On-Device) without access to model weights. By converting real-world deployment feedback into supervised training data, the approach significantly improves humanoid manipulation performance while keeping the model "closed." It's an important step toward making commercial robot foundation models more adaptable.

2. š„ Surgical Re-enactment for Smart Operating Rooms
Collecting surgical workflow data in real operating rooms is expensive and difficult. This paper proposes a methodology for re-enacting complete surgical procedures in a reconstructed OR, enabling the creation of high-quality datasets for activity recognition, scene understanding, and future AI-powered surgical assistance.

3. š± Autonomous Leaf Surface Reconstruction
Researchers present a receding-horizon next-best-view planner that allows robots to autonomously scan and reconstruct plant leaves with high accuracy. While developed for agricultural robotics, the underlying planning approach is broadly applicable to inspection, digital twins, and robotic 3D reconstruction.
